David Card more or less continues:
"For (Caterina) Fake (co-founder) of Flickr, however, the business model is still secondary. "We're creating a culture of generosity," she said."
Good to know. Bet she "does no evil," either.
... the point I made last week:
Also, it's about time someone suggested, humbly of course, that Google's "we'll built it, they'll come and we'll monetize later" model is, shall we say, a tad eyebrow-raising. After the crash, all us savvy people laughed knowingly at such ideas when expounded by small dot-com companies ("of course they would fail, those fools") and now that Google is doing the same thing, it's all fine? It's no different for Google, other than that they got lucky for a couple of years and made a big pile of money. And their single chosen source of revenues has not dried up yet. Remember when Yahoo had 90+% of their revenue come from just one type of advertising? Us wise analysts nodded sagely after the market collapsed beneath them ... are we going to wait until Google gets a shock before nodding sagely this time?
David, who was one of Jupiter's shining lights when I worked there, is one of those bloggers you have to keep an eye on in this industry no matter how small your blogroll.
